What else could one ask for? How about . . .
. . . historical relevance? Omega produced 10000 ref 2179 for the US military under contract during and after World War II. Not all examples of this reference were delivered to the American military, but the bulk were, even the later batches without 'US Army' engraving. And, the contract specified 'chronometer' rating, even though they were fitted with standard 30T2SC movements, not 'rg' chronometer movements.
2179 and sister reference 2384 were made in quantities that permit any Omega aficionado a realistic shot at obtaining one at reasonable cost. Unlike rg chronometers, decent examples are usually available on eBay in the three-figure range without engraving and low four-figure range with. In a sense, it is the Omega for the common man.
