it is obvious to me...
....that if the watch is not reported stolen then PP extracts are not going to report it as such. therefore i am questioning the value of the extracts as they are not completely watertight. what i will do instead, is draft a sale agreement and insert a clause that indemnifies me the whole amount plus intererest, in the event it is later proved that the watch was stolen and i am required to return it. i would become suspicious if the dealer refuses to sign this. would you agree?

You are right.... anybody who has the case and movement number can get an Extract from the Archives and it isn't in itself any form of safeguard against buying a stolen watch. I believe Patek themselves in Geneva keep a register of stolen watches in event...

While I wouldn't trust papers already printed, I would imagine newly ordered papers direct from Geneva would provide you reasonable support for provenance. I would imagine Patek has some form of centralised database for this. Good luck! Peter
