5196P vs 5100G

Mar 18, 2024,23:07 PM

Dear Patek people,

May I ask whether at the same price you would prefer 5196P or 5100G? I know they are very different but anyway, what would be your pick and why? Thanks!

Semyon.

5100G wins in terms of technical complications, that 10 day PR is something else. 5916P looks really beautiful, though. The looks are worthy of a PP museum watch. Good luck choosing.

Iā€˜d look at this not only from the perspective of the watches but from your collection.

Do you have other white metal, classic dress watches? Do you have no rectangular cases and want one? Are you looking to deepen a theme or to broaden the choices? In terms of watches, both are standout PPs and there is no wrong choice. Let us know which wa...

Thanks, Daniel. I understand what you mean, but the Q is really simple

On all possible levels for me. No contest. A piece of art. The architecture of the movement. A 10 day. But again, a piece of art. Happy hunting!

Thanks!

But I am not surprised, considering you own one and have posted a number of fantastic articles on it. Thanks for them, btw!

Amazing watch, no doubts.

2 things I am concerned about are: 1 Hands matter to me a lot. I am a huge fun of longer beautiful hands and on rectangular watches hands are always short, for an obvious reason. DB and LF hands are close to perfection, this sort of hands is an art in its...

Iā€™d go with 5100G

If you want to dress it down you could use a dark blue, grey blue or grey strap, could be crocodile, saffiano, even suede or alcantara

+1

....but let me just add another for the 5100G - a technical standout for its time, which led many other brands to produce 5+ day power reserves after the 5100 was introduced, and an strikingly unusual, yet serious and beautiful watch to wear. Best of both...

Thanks Ad_Aspera.
