i cannot relate to the 'too much empty dial space' comment. it is a watch with only one complication (date) and it has the sweeping second hand, which takes care of movement on the dial. i think it is a great watch (disclaimer: i own one) and close to my favorite calatrava (except for some special editions). the 5147AC does nothing for me, if i'd go AC it would have to be the 5135G::

Between the 2 , your better off with the annual calendar.
Since you own already a 5107 Calatrava to upgrade would be not to my liking. You have good value with the 5107 its a screw down crown , so water resistance would be better. Unless you want to add a Calatrava to your collection. My opinion. Cheers! Geross....

I would have three PP’s in my collection (5711, 5107) Perhaps having those three would give me time to consider whether I want to keep all or sell the 5107 in favor of a WG Daytona.

Let me throw few options in the mix. I prefer 5196 in white gold. It's slimmer and less expensive with much more interesting dial with the vertical grain pattern( unfortunately hard to see in pictures) Definitely worth seeing if you don't mind manual wind...
Between the two references offered, I’d choose the AC. Seems a very good fit in your set, and I tend to agree with you on the dial of the 5227R.

I generally understand the idea of a date complication (at least I hope I do), but complications can be articulated in different ways.
Inclusion of numeral, markers, diameter, etc all affect a dial layout, rendering a different "whole" in the end. This one just doesn't quite do it for me, but clearly works well for others. And hence the world goes 'round 😉
I guess it’s because I’m just used to a 37mm.
Perhaps the single index at 12 on the 5227 kind of adds to my impression of an “empty” dial. ...

Great photos by the way. I think the 5227 is simply stunning to look at, and with the hinged back allowing for neat extra to play with. Reading your comment, for me, I would opt for the 5146P, and keep the 5107.

get the 5146P... it really was too gorgeous in the metal. However my budget (and my commander) will only permit a 5146G.
