I purchased a new 5146G from my AD in June 2008 ,
my first Patek , an "aspiration purchase" to celebrate a special event .
Only Rolexes since 25 years were on my wrist , bought new , and all still flawless ,
after heavy ( and sometimes abusive ) use .
Well aware of the differences in "philosophy" , function , purpose , "intended use" and ruggedness between the 2 brands ,
I still wasn't mentally prepared for quality issues with the expensive , new Patek .
The manufacture considered by many to be the "finest" in the world .
To make a long story short , my 5146G has spent more than half its
( very obsessively carefully cared for - contrary to the Rolexes ... ) life not on my wrist ,
but in Geneva for guarentee repairs ...
My Patek AD ( extremely helpful - who is a family friend and also Rolex AD ) told me to expect the watch back in July 09 .
Yesterday , he sold me .... another Rolex .
The Patek fascination is over for me .
