Evolving or standing still

One can watch a classic brand making watches on and on again, on the basis of an unchanged patern or stricly following some editing combinations seen in the past.

Or he can accept different matching constructions and remember that, before the old 40's, 60's or 80's evolutions existed, they were considered as novelties at the time they appeared.

We can't judge forever, from now on, the novelties with what happened during the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries only.

Concerning the 5975's dial, something already seen during the WWII, we can't only accept it is shown as it was at the time and nothing else. Nothing, in aesthetical rules, say a multiscale dial should be associated with a manual wound movement only.

Manual movements compared to automatic ones can even be considered as a downgraded mechanism, EXCEPT for thinness or aesthetical purposes (open-bridge design).

This being said as an opener for my point of view on this model, this 5975 is totally coherent (even if the monopusher issue can be brought forward).

This kind of movement with it sweep second hand, especially with a solid case back, is perfeclty maching the philosophy of this instrument.

It is a watch that is meant to remind what was a professional instrument at the time we weren't equipped with electronic displays or during previous centuries period of time when instruments were very basic in there construction.

The movement has been upgraded and, as I understand equipped with a flyback function (completly coherent as it allows to instantly re-initiate a measurement session as soon as the event shows up).

Some think it is busy and this is a point I can understand. It is subjective but people may prefere cleaner dials. Personnally, I LOVE this dial, especially when it has thin and balanced markings (that is something I like a lot in Navitimers for instance).

Finally, the case+bezel+lugs is absolutlely fantastic and is the most attractive feature of the 5975. It remind me of the 5070, and even better.

Well, it is maybe the most beautiful case among all the Patek collection for me and I hope we will have the opportunity to find this case again in the regular collection.

A fully new model which is not a simple evolution of existing ones and especially a great case design I wish we will see in the future again.
