I am colllecting
both watches as well as ex-wifes. Furthermore, like I have said earlier, vintages are not my piece of cake.
Anyhow, I must admit that when I bought a nice Caltrava with gold bracelet and lot of diamonds I did not actually think that somebody would take that watch for a beach holiday. For those purposes I had earlier bought a SS and YG Rolex.
Luckily, the younger generation women have learned to check the time from their gsm phones and they hardly swim with the same. I bought my girlfriend a nice Reverso Duetto Duo and I am currently looking for a WG Caltrava. But she knows that swimming nor diving is not recommended with that kind of watches.

Who has or does going swimming while wearing their Patek?
A response by Miles in a recent thread, got me thinking. And in this case, I am not referring to the Nautilus or Aquanaut models. But the rest of the range? Any photos would be more then welcome, showing evidence of the event!
I read that someone here already swimmed with his 5980.

The strap?
I understand the idea that, if a watch was tested to be water resistant, that it could be put in the water. However, the straps worry me... how are they holding up? Tien
5970 down to 30 meters
The 5970 is pressure resistant to 30 meters, so it should be okay to swim with it on. I believe if a seal fails the water will ruin the movement.
The straps are doing well..........
But I always buy a spare for each watch t keep unused....... M.

water resistant and waterproof? I can't help but think submerging these pieces will eventually lead to problems. Continued good luck to you!

I'll not argue abt the documented WR to 120m issue, but, being a pessimist, i'm concern that somehow along the line of wearing it on my wrist, the seal may just fail by whatever means myself or the mother nature could have done. Moreover, leather strap is...
doubt it...
I highly doubt the watch stopped b/c I wore it in the shower. The WR rating is based more on pressure than actual depth. If it was based on depth, then you could easily wear a 5970 to go snorkeling since how often are you going to dive deeper than 80 feet...

Came with an extra strap! ............... Nevertheless, will never dip into water!
you should of..
if you purchased any nautilus on a strap!... your ad might not of realized and its probably still in the original shipping box... call them!... i cant think of any other patek that comes with extra straps...
Nautilus Swimming
Have swum with Nautilus 5711/1A in Pacific Ocean, Mediterranean, and Lago di Maggiore. As recommended by Patek, I have the waterproof seals annually checked free of charge at AD.

And one that every manufacturer recommends. Any watch could fail, whether it's a Patek with a 30m resistance or a Rolex Deepsea with 4,000m depth rating, if the seals are not checked periodically, the seals will ultimately fail. I had no such worries with...
