I believe we might underestimate the good taste of many purists here sometimes
For example, with Rexhep Rexhepi's Chronometre Contemporain, the majority of the 50 watches produced have ended on the wrists of purists. Similarly, I am quite sure that the limited numbers of the 5212 have also been ordered by many purists. The fact that the watch is selling for double the list price on used websites is a testament to the rarity of this watch.

This watch would have been attractive in any metal but making it only in steel has made it an instant classic in my opinion.

I would be most surprised if I was allocated one because I have not bought a new Patek in Malaysia since 1995 so I am not exactly a current customer. And it will be Patek South East Asia who will be making the decision rather than the ADs.

Patek can seldom be accused of being creative
but I think in the 5212, they decided to show off their ingenuity. The watch would have sold like hot cakes even if it was in platinum so making it in steel was a master stroke.

It will be one of my almost daily wear watches. The winding mechanism is especially smooth. It needs to be 40mm to remain legible!

Yes Patek really came through when it mattered. My dealer received only one piece this year so I am pleased and fortunate to have this beauty.

I came in May just to try the watch for size
as I was sceptical that it would fit my wrist especially as the not too dissimilar 40mm 5320 was a tad too large. The lugs as you correctly say did the trick and the busy dial also helped the wear watch smaller. It just shows how important lugs are. A 39....
