In 2015 Patek launched
five pieces of the 3940R with the chocolate dial during the London exhibition. In 2016, I was offered one new watch which remained unsold and after doing my research, I declined the offer. I repeat - only limited to five pieces. I thought initially it would be an excellent buy and a no brainer investment but after conferring with a number of reputable watch dealers in the London used market, I was surprised by the poor resale value of the watch. They explained that the chocolate dial was not to everyone's taste and the 3940 in the salmon dial for example would be in much higher demand.
Based on the above, I would say your 5140R would have similar issues and although one might aspire to own something different which is understandable, I would advise against it if one prioritises 'collectibility'. And as you correctly stated, the 5110P is collectible.

You are right. While 5110P is a consensual piece, 5140R might not be everybody’s taste. I for my part like it a lot. I’m also a huge fan of 5496P-014 with its honey brown dial. Best, Volker
