Several years ago many folks had a problem keeping their automatic wind watches wound, they were not active enough to accumulate much additional power reserve throughout the day and the watches would stop overnight.
In response, PP developed a more efficient winding system. There was a card enclosed with the watch instructing the owner to wind the watch 5-10 turns to get the watch going, but no more than that. If the watches were manually wound too much, accelerated wear on the gears of the winding system would occur and of course would result in higher service costs and an increase in service frequency.
I have not heard or seen anything differently since so I would take it easy when manually winding.
