Patek Philippe

The picture is courtesy of Kari.... I was just curious how many Patek collectors had considered this reference? It may be just peculiar to me, but when I see it, it makes me think "Patek" immediately. Maybe some of that is because so many wall clocks were...  

... to me, its a matter of timing. For now, i like to add only watches that i will wear and enjoy. That model just feels right when i will be older, and that i would have gotten already all the complicated and super complicated models, and all kind of wat...

About the "kid who wants a master of the universe watch which can do it all". EdO is a nice, if not THE essence of the 2nd half of the 20th century PP style.

Just today I compared my Royal Oak, Nautilus and Golden Ellipse. I tried to see if Genta's style could be found from all of the three designs. On thing is sure: all three watches represent the slimmest designs in the category. With Royal Oak and Nautilus ...

Hello there Baron! It is a quirky, quirky little master piece of design from Patek, this current Ellipse. As Kari mentioned: it is the slimmest Patek offering and an instantaneously recognisable Patek. Can be dressed up and down easily and has got always ...

Have never bought one. I have seen a few. The older ones from the 70's are quite small and the current ones are a bit expensive for a folly piece They did make an auto model I think which might suit my purposes I am just not sure if I can wear one without...

Totally agree that the white gold one is truly special ...somehow a modern interpretation of a classic and the dial color very unique. A big plus is also the fact that is an automatic watch... I had to get the cufflinks too ...  

...as someone said earlier: the original 1970ies ones are virtually unwearable due to their size, and the current ones are a bit expensive for what they are. A large one in YG, blue dial, high-gloss black croc strap - that would look good both with a mini... 

.....yes, the one from the 70s is small, but actually I think that just doesn't matter on this watch. The fashion for bigger and bigger watches is over, I believe. I will now only buy a watch at 40mm or less..... big just looks...err...BIG. The Elipse has... 

I assume that you already have bigger pieces in your collection..the proportion of the white gold and the others is just perfect (unless you really have a large wrist but it could still work). The platinum one that is much larger didn't look as good to me...  

I'm a huge admirer of ellipse watches and in particular the Patek Ellipse. As my collection focuses on GP, there are some very similar models, even with blue dial from the early 70ties. CC ...

I'm a yellow gold guy in general - usually, everything else equal, I will prefer yg over ss, wg, or plat. However, for the 70s Ellipse family, I prefer the WG, which looks more "wearable" to me. The yellow gold versions look more art deco (which is cool t...

Just kidding as I was too young for any serious watch at that time. The Ellipse is one of (if not THE) epitome of 70s taste, when we talk about watches and especially those loved by the Jet Set at that time. It was and still is admired by artists and arch...  

A men's size YG with blue dial or WG with black dial, both with high-gloss black croc strap, is what Christian Kracht's hero in "1979" would wear at that wild party in pre-revolution Tehran. A 928 in its early version would be the ideal car to go along wi... 

that much attention anymore it is an appropriate picture. Porsche 928 and (one of my favorites) Mercedes SLC would have been (and still are) great cars to match the Ellipse. Those cars get (already) a lot of attention today ... Back in the 70s, I was look...  

I think the current version of the E. is very nice; not too big but with enough presence.

...looking at the watch it tastes...dry and numb...like a piece of alloy...and the blue dial....is cold and relaxing...like a slow but painless death from drowning, in an ice-cold lake. A very nocturnal watch, but equally befitting CK's 1979 parties in th... 

May be it is difficult to capture the nuances of the grey dial in the "new" WG version but it is what makes the watch so special. Nothing against the blue one but the WG one is the ultimate understatement that becomes very dandy with the original light br... 

...would be paired much better with an Iso, Aston or Mercedes W100.

Hi Oliver, Do you know the connection with "Arte Suizo", which I see on the dials of many early 70's Ellipses. I have heard that Arte Suizo is/was a large retailer in South America. Is this your understanding as well? Do you also see proportionally a lot ... 

and I am aware of several pieces, but never took special attention to it. To me it is just one retailer on the dial, something I don´t prefer - most of the time ;-) Cheers, Oliver

The Golden Ellipse. Born in 1968. A great time - there were the classic grand hotels (Beau Rivage, Baur au Lac), the funky ones, like the Royal Hilton in North Tehran: 1968 makes me think off eggshell white Mercedes Benz Pagodas: Of a Zeitgeist at the int...  

Its sexy. The watch of a playboy / dandy. In due time ill get one. I like it yellow gold. The blue dial is mesmerizing. I think every Patek collector should have one. But thats just me. Best Geross

Blue is the color of the sky the gates of heaven. Yellow is the color of wealth / gold. Floating in the depths of the dial no seconds hand moving not even a petite seconds making it immortal. Thats why the style is everlasting. And its shaped like a bed ,...

Reminds me of hangover/latenight dishes in hotel bars, e.g. Steak Holstein, caviar omlettes etc. The kind of food you have served by an understanding barman at 3am. With just another cigarette.

I would place the Golden Ellipse in the classic watch category along with the Calatrava. The blue dial in WG from Kari's collection certainly looks quite stunning. The blue dial in platinum (5738P) is the perfect size for today. I have been on the look ou... 

Do you have any pictures to share? Just saw one or two wristshot´s so far and had the impression it lacks the charm of the smaller ones. On the official press pictures I liked it a lot. Just from the numbers it should be the right size for today, but stil... 

but I have tried it many many times. On paper it seems to be spot on, just the right size. Plus I love the metal. But on the wrist something is badly wrong. Perhaps it's because the wath is so slim - it's like putting a small plate to the wrist. I wanted ...

by numbers and even when it is far from being too big on your wrist, I am still not convinced. It is difficult to explain, but somehow it needs to be smaller to show its very special charm and elegance. As a watch of classical and pure beauty I prefer it ...
