I think you took the right decision to do it slowly, because I trust you learned a lot during that journey. Nothing beats personal experiences from my point of view and together with some serious research and passionate discussions it sounds very rewarding to me.
Your choice is not the most common one and therefore I like it even more. Own experiences, own style ... own decisions. Congrats, it looks very good on your wrist!

Good choice
looks very nice and personally i think more interesting than the classic 5711. Given the complication works well with the white dial. Looking forward to some wrist shots... Cheers !

wonderful and quite bold first entries to the world of PP. please share early experiences with this 5726 in white, have myself been drawn to it for some time but have not "earned" it yet…
I used to dream about owning perpetual calendars...
because of the fascinating little machinery and mechanics of building this into a wrist watch. After seeing so many watch makers able to do so and even producing sub-$15K perpetual calendars, from Mont Blanc and JLC (no offense, both are reputable brands)...
