Patek Philippe

I have a first world dilemma. I am trying to choose between the perpetual calendar and the chronograph. I like a watch that is a little under the radar and has a reasonable mass on the wrist. I currently own 5146R and 5110J. Do you have any suggestions on...  

There is some charm in having a Patek Philippe perpetual calendar but since you have an annual (5146) I suggest going for the 5170G, the black dial is my first choice. Cheers. Beautiful 5110 btw.

You make a good point. A chronograph would be a good addition. I do like the fact that it is a hand wound movement.

...on a similar trajectory: 5146p then 3940g so next for me is a chrono. If you desire reasonable mass, I would suggest the chrono, but mainly because I\'m still not sold by the 5140 (versus 3940). Whatever you do, enjoy!

I now understand your thought process and others in this forum. Your collective experiences and horological wisdom is staggering. I will be buying the 5170G. In the meantime, I will evaluate the 5140 vs 3940. At first look it seems like the 3940 is more p... 

I like both 5140G and 5170G a lot, but the 5170G is more different from what you have already in a number of ways. Manual movement as opposed to another 240 which you already have in your 5110. Different size and feel on the wrist. A classic chrono like 5... 

I think the chrono you should get to expand your collection. That will be the 5170g. The cal 240 is a gem of a movement but you have a 5110j which has that movement so to get the pc 5140 which has the same base movement would be redundant. But that's me. ... 

I really like your line of reasoning. I have decided to get the 5170G. It is the perfect complement to my collection. In the future I will consider the 3940J as my perpetual calendar. Thanks to all for their opinions. It was very helpful.

Can't go wrong with the PP Perpetual! I'm not a huge fan of "dressy chronographs" - seem a bit out of place to me. PP Perpetual is a MUST (if that's the level of our collecting) Either choice would be a "Killer" piece though

Between the 5140G and the 5170G, it is a tough choice. A perpetual calendar and chronograph would add nicely to your existing collection. Perhaps you will add one now and add the other later. As you know, the 5140G has been discontinued, so it will be har... 

I have decided to go with a 5170G. I like the fact that it is a hand wound movement which I do not have. I like the size, mass and thickness. It will complement my 5110J and 5146R very nicely as you all have pointed out. Also easier to come by compared to...
