but this Rolex madness has just made me look at my collection completely differently. I’m obviously fortunate enough to be able to afford some nice watches, but I wouldn’t be in the market for a Calatrava, or been able to get my 1815, without cashing in on the current Rolex craze. The reason I got my 1815 is because I was able to sell my 1675 for literally 4x what I paid for it, and the 5513 is approaching similar levels (I have an absolutely perfect full set). Don’t get me wrong, I love Rolex, but when I look at my 5513 these days I just see a pretty sizable budget to get something special, or even a couple more reasonably priced watches. I’m ‘playing with house money’ as it were. That being said, I’d probably replace it with something to fill the sports/casual watch slot, possibly an El Primero Rainbow (if I can find one), or an IWC Pilot.
On a day to day basis I dress fairly business casual, so I can make anything work there. I live in Colorado at the moment but am planning a move back to NYC next year, so I’ll be stepping up my sartorial game in any case!
