It's elegant and thin, but fresh, technical, and playful. The "inside out" nature of the movement serving as the dial is right up my alley. I love the unusual display, and the whimsy of having the rotor on the dial. Despite the novelty factor of this dial, there's a certain sense and order to the display. Piaget's use of the micro-rotor as part of their famed 12P movement, and again here as part of the 1270P, creates an instant bridge from the manufacture's past to its present. Having the micro-rotor adjacent to the shaped tourbillon on the dial, brings past, present and future together visually.
The other aspect of the watch that really caught my eye in the press photos was the layered effect of the dial. There's a real sensuality and depth to the view of the movement through the sapphire crystal. Check out the angled side view of the dial in the press photo. It's mesmerizing.
I'm looking forward to hearing your collective thoughts, and initial impressions on this first novelty from Piaget for SIHH 2011.
Cheers,
Daos
