Piaget

I am partly to blame....so are you....and him....and....

 

All of us "PuristS" are partly to blame for the lack of public knowledge about Piaget.

Of course, Piaget themselves admit that they have been slow to embrace the Internet or to publicise their watchmaking heritage (134 years+) but watch snobs also have to take some blame.

I vaguely remember seeing the Upstream in magazines when it was first introduced in 2001. I had just started this watch collecting hobby and had not even discovered ThePuristS yet. Then, there were alll sorts of brands to discover and Piaget only appeared in reference books or were listed as originators of the movements in watches that we (the current Mrs MTF and me) bought e.g. Cartier Paris Collection Privee.

It was only a chance meeting with Piaget CEO Philippe L-Metzger (introduced by Thomas Mao) that I discovered Piaget was not just a note in history books but continues to be a vital watchmaker.  Hence, our recent PuristS on Tour 2008 visit to their manufactures to redress the balance amongst our community.

Thanks for the interesting post. What's the size of the case? Is the thickness below 10mm after the fastening? Like AT, the thought of TAG Heuer's Tiger Woods' model came to mind. However as it is patented...thought it was licensed. Careful observation, i...

Thanks MTF. Out of the 3 main jewelery & watch brands, Cartier privee collection always ranks the top in my heart, followed by Chopard, then Piaget. Now, I may have to rethink the arrangement of the 2nd and 3rd position after reading your previous and cur...

Salman, In 2001, it could be that Piaget did not have in-house automatic chronograph movement still in production. After the quartz era, they made ultra-thin time-date movements like 430P for themselves and other brands like Cartier. Also a few tourbillon...
