Two wristshots which show two different approaches to create dials with continents on it: I have to confess that I love the dial of the Emperador Moonphase (by Anita Porchet) maybe thanks to the subtle way the continents are outlined with a very thin gold...
... but it could also be that the continents' outlines are printed and then the inner parts are painted by hand, after which the text parts are printed again. Only a more extreme closeup picture would answer that - or a mail to Piaget. Marcus
Sorry for my late reply... The technique is the scrimshaw engraving for the first time used by Piaget. It is a form of engraving exclusively practiced on ivory or bones... like whalers in the past! The dial is made of fossilized mammoth which are engraved...
I searched online and learned more about it Mammoth fossil, amazing !! Piaget is really come out with some great dials, such as the mini-mosaic which is wonderful ! This brand is earning my respect on the artistic front
