... wonderful boxes of brand new timepieces I have bought during my trips. That was with much regret of course.
I had never paid attention to boxes, tags and booklets and only learned about their collectible status when I discovered the wonderful World of Watch Collecting a few years ago.
I feel that the obsession for "full set" watches is a very nice and desirable thing for vintage watches, but it gets beyond logic in some brands like Panerai where serious collectors demand even the brown outer box to declare a "full set" as such, whereas the factory says that brown box should not be handled to customers.
I feel it is the same with other brands like Patek where some collectors demand the small box used for delivery of watch from Manufactury to AD!!
I personally don´t care about that as I buy my watches for my use and personal satisfaction and never bought something with an "investment" purpose.
But sometimes I ask myself if after I am called to the "Big Collectors Club in the Sky", my heirs will not receive the proper value for my watches when they sell them due to the fact that many will not have the proper boxes or complements.
By the other hand, trying to keep all boxes and documents requires a lot of space if you own a large collection. And you know space can be a big problem even if you live in a large house.
Just a personal point of view of course.
All the best, Abel.
