Friends,

I run a forum (in that biblical language  smile ), and just posted my review of the new 54,

thought I'd share it here as it may benefits those who have not seen it yet,

Just to make it clear, it is not an "edited" version of the press release, nor a typical copy paste of the obvious info as can be seen on the Tudor web.

(As it is written in for group members, some wording may be "weird" but you'll get it..)

Thank you for taking the time to read it .

THE TEST EVERYONE HAS BEEN WAITING FOR, BLACK BAY 54

Tudor Blackbay 54 vs. Blackbay 58, and in general...

.

Remember Paul Newman's Daytona Reference 6239 watch that sold in 2017 for the astronomical amount of $17,752,500!!! (17 million dollars !!!) This watch and all the other 62xx Daytona models produced between 1963 and  1988, are in high demand by collectors and receive prices starting at tens of thousands of dollars, they are often spotted on the wrists of collectors and celebrities, and they are all in a miraculous size of 37mm...

.

Do you know the iconic Submariner that James Bond's used, the reference 5508?. These now vintage submariners, which were a real tool-watch and an important element in paving the way to where Rolex is today, are also 37mm. They sell for tens of thousands of dollars and are proudly worn by their owners, while many others only dream of owning them.

37mm is probably what dreams are made of…

While these dreams are now precious and rare, There is a dream that can now be realized, it is the new Tudor Blackbay 54.

.

A lot of words have been spilled on every possible website in the world about this watch since its launch on March 23. Therefore, I will not write the “plastic” description of what it looks like, or what's inside the case, but you’ll get honest perspectives that are not copied from the press release. And in order to do that, I had to fly and bring the watch to the Holy Land.

.

At first glance, the watch is adorable, or as a good friend who saw it said to me, "it's really beautiful." That is a real in-depth professional analysis.

.

Wrist Feel:

The watch feels great on your wrist, it feels just the way I like  from watches in this size segment (Day-Date  36 in white gold also falls into this category). The feeling is   of a very comfortable watch, but not too light, it has “presence” on the wrist. The feel is due, among other things, to it’s weight. The 54 weighs 139 grams (with all links), only 6 grams less than the 58, which weighs 145 grams. The 54 feels "dense", it has a “mass” feel, just like the Rolex Day-Date watches of 36mm, The good news is that with the 54,  the mass is not heavy and very comfortable. Just feels right on hand.

This feeling also relates to the dimensions. Although it is declared 37 versus the 39 of the 58 model, if we measure accurately we will discover very close dimensions.

The 54's lag-2-lug length is 46mm (47.5mm on the 58 model) and 11.24mm thick  (the 58th is 12mm thick). Add convex design lines to this and understand why it feels like a large-small Tudor. Only when placed next to each other we will see the differences.

The point is that wrist feel is also depends on the weight distribution.

Another noteworthy element is that the crown is attached to the case with no gap ring  like in the 58. Just like the 5508 Rolex (see comparison photo to 58)

The watch comes on a   20mm bracelet, which tapers to 18 (with a T.Fit mechanism for fast adjustments).

.

If I had to formulate a description of the 54 models for Tudor, I would say that the 58 is for those who prefer a smaller dose of the regular Black Bay, while the 54 is the classic Submariner 5508 "James Bond", but in a modern configuration to be worn anytime, anywhere and in any conditions, even the original 100 meters of the 5508 now improved by Tudor to 200 meter.

Plus, it can always be a great watch for your significant other…....

.

Wallet:

At $3850 for the bracelet model ($3625 for the strap model), TUDOR continues to be highly competitive in prices

And with the ongoing climb, sometimes big jump, in the watch prices of many companies, TUDOR is strengthening its position as an alternative not only by features and look,  but as a strong competitor and VFM for your hard earned money.

.

Summary

A warm recommendation to give it a wrist try when it arrives to the shop near you..... Go try it on, there is definitely a situation in which you will decide to fulfill a dream for yourself.

I agree on every point, except one. The point of comparison was not the 5508, but the Tudor cousin, the 7922.
