I personally feel that Rolex named this watch after the Zephyr wind (Ford also had a model in England with same name).
If you search in internet you´ll find that some watch aficionados think it is related to the name of certain type of blimp or Zeppelin, but I personally don´t think this is the correct explanation as the model was launched in the 1960´s.
