Rolex

Honestly....

.....i think your choice is so much more than the future value of the Rolex and how well it holds its price. Generally speaking, you won't find many people on this forum who look at their watch in terms of its ability to hold its value. Having said that, nobody likes to throw money away on a watch....so there is a paradox.

Well, maybe not. If the watch that is on your wrist gives you great pleasure, then the price that you pay for it is worth it..... regardless of whether it holds its value of not. Think of it like a holiday...a holiday is something which has a high embedded value at the beginning but eventually depreciates to zero. Now, all holidays depreciate to zero so on the same rationale is it right to view all holidays as a wasted expenditure? or rather, is a holiday something that leaves great memories and these memories are worth something...worth money to you enough to pay for the holiday to start with.

I think a watch is the same.... think of all the enjoyment you will get from a watch you love to start with...it will give you years of pleasure. If at some point in time you decide to sell the watch, then whatever its residual value, it has given you loads of pleasure over the years that is worth something to you.

I would look at the new GMT and decide if it is a watch that will give you great pleasure over the years to come, and if it is, then go for it. If it manages to hold its price, then great but if not, well no big deal as it has been like a holiday wearing it

Buy what makes you happy....not what makes a good investment as the latter is very random in watch world and less likely to make you happy in the wearing.

Just my 10 cents
