PVD is just the procedure ...

... so DLC is also a PVD process. What counts is the material that is deposited onto the steel base. Diamnod-like carbon (DLC) is very hard, but not indestructible. I have one DLC coated timepiece that is used very often as my holidays watch and therefore not treated too cautiously. There are two or three tiny dings where the base metal shines through. A much softer material, like used on my PPro Rescue watch, shows scratches much quicker and more prominently. Therefore, I am personally not buying a PVD coated watch where I do not know the material used for the coating.
