Sharing my last arrival to my stable for 2023… Tudor BB 54.
Dec 30, 2023,19:28 PM
Hello dear friends.
I wish to share this new addition to my collection which arrived last Thursday 27th but by some reasons I could unpack it just today Saturday.
The new Tudor Black Bay 54 was introduced earlier this year and I felt the new case size of 37 mm would make for a more vintage looking version of the entire BB line.
Truth is that the smaller brother of the BB collection looks like a real vintage specially when you compare it with its previous models in the metal. Specially interesting is the thickness of just 11,24 mm and profile of the new BB54 which adds to its beauty I feel.
I tried to make a few shots with the other watches but I feel they don’t show in pictures the real difference. The difference really shows when you wear them.
In my personal opinion this is the “almost” perfect Black Bay if you like the looks of vintage Submariners from Tudor and Rolex from the early 1950’s.
I say “almost” because for my personal taste I would ask a few changes to Tudor if they offered a customization service.
Those changes would make it really perfect and they are:
1) the winding crown a bit larger. The new crown has a nicer shape than those in previous models. But if a bit larger it would look much better yet resembling a “Big Crown” model.
2) Adoption of the Tudor Rose emblem on the dial. The Rose was present in the first edition of the BB 41mm.
3) Adoption of the “smile” inscription at six. Also a feature of the first BB edition.
4) Mercedes or Pencil handset and a lollipop seconds hand instead of “snowflake” hour hand.
These four changes would make this superb little watch truly perfect for my taste.
Anyway I’m very happy with this watch as is and I feel it will became my favorite among my BB collection which includes
The 43 mm Bronzo, the 41 mm original red bezel BB and the 39 mm BB 58.
I am sharing some comparison shots of these watches including my beloved Rolex 5508 from 1958.
I hope you like them!
Best cordial regards and good wishes for a great New Year 2024 for all our friends here and their families. Be it with much Peace and Good Health!!
