Watches and Wonders 2022: My best attempt on trying to take a decent picture of the new Rolex Air King.
As already said, there are three main features about the new Rolex Air King:
- Crown Guards.
- Luminous 3 / 6 / 9.
- An extra " 0 " to the 5 minute index.
Picture taken through the window display, as it was super though to find an opportunity to have an appointment in order to take a decent picture of this watch.
My feelings? I warmly welcome the luminous 3 / 6 / 9 which is something which clearly missed on the former version. I would have even gone farther and give lume to all the numbers, to make the dial even more spectacular in the dark.
I find that adding a " 0 " to the 5 minute index is not a bad idea.
But, for me, the presence of a crown guard ruins the purity of the whole watch, a detail which makes me prefer the former version, which I luckily own.

I liked without guards more, too. Other additions: fully agree.
Iām also not sold on the crown guards with a plain steel bezelā¦
and canāt recall another model done this way. Interesting š¤ and wonder upon the fate of the Milgauss. It would have made chronological sense to introduce this change with it instead, if the ultimate goal is to have all professional models have crown guard...
I find the dial an improvement overall from the prior version
The crown guards donāt bother me much.
Over the years the dial
has grown on me, may take equally as much time for crown guards to do the a same. I'm not saying I don't like them, just not ready to say I do either.

Is the dial still matte black (like the previous gen)?
Agree that full lume would have been even better, and +1 for no crown guards.

Iām a big fan of ābalanceā but is there such a thing as being too balanced? I find the single 5 to be an aid in legibility. Having a bit of dyslexia in me, I can easily misread that for a 50 even if the position is clearly at 1:00. With the double digit 5...

Overall I like the new dial and I think I agree with the general consensus re the crown guard. However what I am most pleased about is that there still is an Air King with a dial inspired by Bloodhound. I think itās great to see Rolex sticking with this. ...
I have never had the opportunity to see a Airking in fleshā¦..
but from pictures I would think that the biggest difference would be the case shape. I always liked the bulkiness of the AK case, especially the lugs seems to be very thick and long, something the new one doesnāt have anymore.
