Would we all take a look at the 'patina'd' version if it wasn't so collectible & valuable?

 

Would a high end Swiss 50's or 60's dress watch with such dial patina make it desirable too? Is this level of dial degradation an acceptable level of patina that shows it's history or is it auction room hipster speak for 'ruined'?
