So I bought it
Hi,
Just wanted to let you know that I ended up buying this watch. This is my first post in this forum, but I've been lurking WUS and RF since the early 2000s. I've been on the search for an affordable example of this watch for the better part of 3 years now. I've been periodically searching the reference every couple of months, but this was the first one that ended up within reach for me (the ~6k usually being asked *on the odd occasion it came up* was a bit too much to swallow for me).
Anyway, that's not particularly interesting, I just figured I'd let you know that the "B" rating comes from some discoloration on the dial, which I was aware of and am relatively fine with. HOWEVER, the part I found interesting, was in looking to see whether this was a common problem, the only record of this happening elsewhere is a post by your very own moderator cazalea describing this phenomenon on the original dial of his watch (here:
www.watchprosite.com
), which he eventually gets fixed by GS Service Center. Here's where this information may be useful for posterity - I see in one of his copy is 148/300. Well, mine is 149/300, so perhaps this was an issue with this particular run of the watch? Maybe someone buying 147/300 in a couple of years will find this thread and find this information useful/a little fascinating.
Anyway, I'm still deciding whether I care enough about the discoloration to send it in for service. The dial is definitely a high point for this watch so it's a bit of a shame mine isn't perfect, but at the same time I've heard nightmare stories of sending watches in for service, only for them to come back worse for the wear.
Cheers again and thanks for apparently being better than google at finding these. This is a beautiful watch and honestly I'm so glad I can own one.
