Seiko

A few days

Into the ownership, all I can say is it feels good to wear something that I know some people put in a lot of work and time to create.

The quality of watches that comes out of Seiko MAS is well known in this forum. I have some watches that cost multiple times of this SBGD001 but I can't say they were better made. This is also why I have stopped buying big brands (To me MAS doesn't count) because the workmanship has not kept up with price increases.

Patek still makes great watches, but they have made no secret that a lot of the finishing is done with machines, even the videos on their website clearly shown it. Edge polishing is done with machine and then by hand, but with a polishing wheel in the shape of a pen. How does MAS do edge polishing? The old fashion way, with wood stick and polishing paste.

Now, this is not to knock Patek, they are the biggest manufacturer of high haute horlogerie at 50,000+ pcs a year, there is just no way they can polish all those plate edges without help.

But for wrist watches, I'm looking for that human touch. I have always looking to add a high end Japanese watch to my collection, but nothing really appealed to me (Eichi's porcelain dial is not my cup of tea) until this one.
