Hahaha.... You haven't seen all yet :-)
1. The smallish cars with yellow number plate is not sold in US - simply because you guys don't like small cars, hahaha. Energy efficiency and strength of the car structure has improved drastically in recent years and it's very popular in Japan.
2. Sign showing the next trains - you wait there, then the information would be changed to English - it toggles.
3. Taxi - yeah, there is no acrylic glass between the driver and the passenger. Most of them wear white gloves. Very polite (but few of them speak English), and expensive (in comparison to New York cabs).
4. Boats - this is not my strong area
5. Oh, trains..... Japanese are paranoid about the accuracy (when it comes to watches, too) about the trains, especially Bullet trains. They run in the 30 seconds tolerance, and it does leave and arrive on time +/- 30 sec, no matter how close or far the destination is. It's not about cost, but about "how it should be". Attention to details - remember?
After 17 years of exile, I was surprised that the transportation systems in Japan has greatly improved to be "kind to foreigners"
I hope you want to visit Japan again, Mike!
