How do I know about the movements?
Just curious, plus willing to go overboard on research.
- owned a variety of Seiko watches (let's say a round number of 100) in the past 20 years
- had about 20 Grand Seikos, mechanical, quartz, and some early Spring Drives from 1999-onwards
- visited the two main Grand Seiko watch factories in Japan, the Seiko museum, and many dealers around the world
- know the Grand Seiko website like the back of my hand
- built the ultimate spreadsheet of GS movements and watches
- when I became a moderator, I wrote many articles on various Seiko movement families and watches
- have good friends who have helped me a lot, such as KIH and Dr. No
In addition to that Seiko-specific background, my past career prepared me for writing these articles
- trained for 4 years to be a watch repairman
- spent 20 years in technical publishing focused on automotive diagnostics, electronics and wiring
- hands-on experience in most areas of home and light industry repair and fabrication
- making a living for the last 20 years as an independent researcher and consultant
- operated a digital camera since 1990

very good read and thanks for sharing this article however some important points to underline
As much as Grand Seiko is making nice quartz operated high end watches (springdive) , it isn't really taken in consideration by collectors. Their mechanical watches are very nicely made and are an interesting alternative to the swiss made watches
Those are important opinions rather than objective points
If you say "serious, high-end, long-time collectors of expensive watches" I will agree with you. They may not have even seen a Grand Seiko. But I know many watch collectors who have added a quartz or Spring Drive Grand Seiko or two to their inventory, aft...
