I DO like GRAND SEIKO 44GS so much that I present here the comparison photos of the original and the re-issue. The case is made by the same supplier (Hayashi Seiki) in perhaps the same way - 10-15 times forging, between which 15 minutes heating to 1100C, make is slightly bigger than the spec, and then machine the surface with Salatz to make it like mirror, and sharp edge.... For the SS watch sold at 4 - 5K range, 10 to 15 times forging is almost ridiculous and unheard of but THAT IS SEIKO way, and that is why this case design which started with the original 44GS is so special..... The master case maker at Hayashi does this with "touches" - another type of "Meister" SEIKO has.
On the left is the original, on the right with leather strap is the re-issue.
While the photo may show the slight difference of the dial color, in reality they are the same.

The original - unfortunately, the previous owner(s) has asked the "street watchmaker" to polish the case and the edges has become dull.

The re-issue. The edges are all sharp.

Another difference - the lower part of the dial.
The original has the logo of "Kameido" factory while...

.. the re-issue has "Diashock" - the name of SEIKO's shock-absorbing system. Note that the original version does have "DIASHOCK" in the first half of its production and latter half production has "Kameido" logo. So, the original in the photo was the later version. 44GS was in production for only 2 years.
