You can also enhance moon shots to show the craters, etc.
Normally just with contrast and brightness. Sometimes more work is needed, for example:
Notice the plants are in focus, and the moon is not. It's a bit further away.

Here it is better.
How did I do that? Umm, well, errr to be honest, I cut and pasted moon below (taken a couple minutes earlier) into the shot above. Same moon, same photographer, same camera, same angle, etc. But better together.
I suppose one has to draw the line somewhere for integrity sake on editing, but I don't lose sleep over this kind of work. Some people don't do any changes, and that's ok too.
