Balochi Prayer Rug: 10 years of begging finally pays off.
For sentimental reasons I coveted the pictured rug of my parents: after ten years of begging, my parents surrendered the rug to me. The rug was purchased from Jacobsen Oriental Rugs in Syracuse NY (founded 1924); rug fans will remember Charles Jacobsen (1894-1986) as the author of the 1962 book Oriental Rugs: A Complete Guide. In ancient times Jacobsen Oriental Rugs was (and maybe still is) a wonderful store; I remember if a rug came into the store that Charles Jacobsen thought my parents may like, the rug would arrive at the house unannounced with note saying "I think you will like this rug", more often than not the rug found a home.
The Balochi rug was not an expensive rug (per the invoice it seems dirt cheap); my mother never liked the rug but my father liked the rug and maybe that is why I like the rug: the rug now lives in my office. I think the rug was from Afghanistan but often rug stores list country of origin as Pakistan for export reasons, restrictions etc.
