For the bottom line (total sales figure), having ALL the functions available is the safe business decision.
People can choose NOT to use any feature.
I'd probably get one if I ever upgrade my Nikon DX DSLR.
I agree that the tool is not as important as the idiot behind it for photography. David Bailey used a simple Olympus Trip 35mm (4 fixed focus settings) to great effect.
As you quoted, there is no One great camera for everyone/everything, but they still try. Now, the D4 is touted for everyone.....
My comment was purely 'purist' in nature. I can remove your appendix with my Swiss Army Knife but you probably prefer me not to unless it was an emergency....hehehe.
