In the final analysis, you are probably right.........

 

For the bottom line (total sales figure), having ALL the functions available is the safe business decision.

People can choose NOT to use any feature.

I'd probably get one if I ever upgrade my Nikon DX DSLR.

 

I agree that the tool is not as important as the idiot behind it for photography.  David Bailey used a simple Olympus Trip 35mm (4 fixed focus settings) to great effect.

 

As you quoted, there is no One great camera for everyone/everything, but they still try.  Now, the D4 is touted for everyone.....  smile

 

My comment was purely 'purist' in nature.  I can remove your appendix with my Swiss Army Knife but you probably prefer me not to unless it was an emergency....hehehe.

 

Let us know your hands-on impressions at CES.

Canon announced the 1DX way early probably because they found out Nikon was going to announce the D4. The 1DX won't even be available until March or April. I'll be at CES so I will have the opportunity to handle the D4 and report back with pics. -MW

... seeing your update... I will probably for now, stay with Canon as I have already 6 L lenses.. I just need a new house as the old got stolen under the burglary in December. I might go for the D1x or 5D mark III. Both should be available in March or Apr...

Take out the video function. Real photographers won't need the function and be embarassed it exists on their 'real camera'. Real videographers don't need the function and have dedicated and ergonomic equipment for that. It just ain't purist.......... Rega...

That thinking is starting to become invalid. Although I am a Nikon fan and both my pics and video are amateur at best, there are many out there that have done some amazing things with a DSLR with video functions. I'm a rookie with a camera or camcorder so...
