No, I'm happy to say...

 

...the only thing I shared with Don Draper was the job.


But watching that show does bring back memories for me. In fact, it was my ad career that introduced me to watches. It was an extremely showy business so your watch, car and clothes were just as important to some clients as your creative and marketing ability. These were the decades of "conspicuous waste"...more was always better and if a client couldn't tell from your attire that you were successful, you just couldn't be good enough to work with them. Hence my foray into watches.

As for retiring young, like I said, best career move ever for me. Of course my wife never realized how much money I made until the paychecks stopped. But we had discussed it quite a bit before I resigned and we both decided it was worth it. Yes, we had to make some substantial adjustments, but we both agree...money isn't everything.
