Salties everywhere Daos...
However, I was grateful there were no crocs in that particular freshwater pool. But we took no chances and our host did carry a rifle and magnum with him whilst we were there, just in case. Gave us a chance to have some target practice in the wild.
The Northern Territory is largely unpopulated, so wildlife gets the run of the land. I would feel ripped off if I didn't see a wild croc somewhere on the station.
At least near the populated centres you get warning signs...

Otherwise you just have to use common sense.
This one and his friend were captured by the station staff a week or so before our arrival, because it was a menace, eating local cattle. It was in a makeshift pen a couple of hundred metres away from where I was sleeping, awaiting deportation.

Even went to take a look at him at night because I had nothing better to do...

This one was sunbaking where our motorboat wanted to come ashore. Fortunately he was more scared of us than we were of him, so I could follow him for a while.

Regards,
Richard.
