TimeOut

Walking with the Car

No, we didn’t push the car home, we didn’t pull it along like a lazy dog, we just cruised after finishing our second appointment with the accountants at the north end of town. It was such a beautiful day we didn’t want to take the freeway, so we cruised some neighborhoods until we came to the big arterial roads.

If my wife was a hawk she would be a fat one, because she can spot anything if she’s trying. Like this squirrel running for his life:

However, sight is always conditioned on WHAT you are Looking For. She was taken by this kitsch garden decor, when all I can see is the lizard (on the bunny).

She said "Needs Paint”,  I said, "Yes, but Doesn't Need Florida Oranges"

I will let Filip get all Philosophical about this “lawn"

and here I can only say, "a couple of nice ones"

But this takes the proverbial cake! What the heck? Is it an old tree, covered with vines? (my wife’s vote) or is it a tree that they coaxed leaves to grow out of the trunks?

A mile or two away we saw a similar thing “in progress” but no one around to ask. I repeat “What the heck? Something in the water here?"

Our lovely state flower, the Golden Poppy

A little open space between streets (underground gas pipeline easement).

Beautiful flowering "we don’t know what kind” of tree. I’ll post if I find out.

View from these homes to the hills eastward. Behind them is Lake Poway which we visited last year at tax time. Go there if you have the time; it’s a real walk:  Ring around the Reservoir

These cactus flowers are absolutely the most beautiful we’ve ever seen. And we’ve seen plenty. Maybe some influence from St Francis over there to the right...

A common sight in these neighborhoods, the “dry creek bed” desert look… Old guys can pretend they are a gold miner and living the dream (but with electricity and TV).

"They oranges was fallin’ off the tree” as the old prospectors used to say

I suppose not all the elderly retired people in this neighborhood can buy new flags when theirs wear out

Maybe their finances are kinda rocky, given the economic situation today?

This guy can afford a flag, and doesn’t have to water his grass, so he has a fountain to spray the water up in the air to keep things cool on the porch - in fact two fountains — perhaps the one by the garage is to cool the Porsche?

New local hospital from Palomar Health

We left the tidy retirement neighborhood and entered some streets where the rules aren’t so strict, the houses have two stories, and there’s a vehicle with a story in every driveway...

This guy almost pulled out ahead of us, and based on my 40 years of auto industry experience, I can tell you he’s not heading to the smog or safety inspection today.

just a fraction of the exhaust cloud is visible in this rear-view mirror shot.

A Cart before the Horse situation?

This reminds me, I need to trim our hedge

Finally we saw this swell Vette in the parking lot of the grocery store, and wondered if it was the one we spotted in La Jolla 60 days ago (It’s a Beautiful Morning)

Nope, it’s the inverse of it.

Thanks for coming along for the ride on a beautiful Spring day in Rancho Bernardo. My watch for the day is the Alain Silberstein Klub on its brushed & polished bracelet.
