I absolutely agree.
It is my understanding, after talking with a number of people at UN, including Rolf and Patrick that there were Freaks produced that have worked perfectly since day one. Others, like mine, have been problematic and it was those that led to the development of Freak 1.5. With this latest improvement, my watch has been working flawlessly.
With the above said, I would not have the upgrade until or unless it is needed. A watch is like any fine piece of machinery, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I would advise against any consideration of a 1.0 vs. a 1.5 version based solely on investment/"value".

Freak 1 upgrade question
I have a WG Freak 1 and the watch is working fine. However, I have heard other Freak 1 owners to have the watch upgraded to Freak 1.5. Do you think it is worthwhile? How much and how long will it take? Your insight is greatly appreciated. James
I wouldn't do it.
Many threads on this a few months back. You can do a search and read many pro/con posts. I have an early WG one as well which works fine. To me there is value in having an unmodified original, but if it were to stop functioning I would of course do the up...

ulyssenardin.watchprosite.com It should be pointed out that UN executes the upgrade to 1.5 standard regularly, and unasked for, when the standard overhaul (=service) of the watch is due. If you don't want the upgrade, you have to advise UN not to execute ...
My understanding...
.....from the UN service center is that this "overhaul" is not all that dramatic (although it does have to go back to Switzerland and does take months). Again, that is what I have been told by the service center...
Depends on what you define as "dramatic" ...

Actually lived in the desert for 3 years...
....and while I was never trapped in a hole with rattlesnakes (no rattlesnakes in the Saudi Arabian desert) we did have what we recalled as "cigarette snakes" (if you were bitten by one you had enough time to light a cigarette before you were dead). Anywa...
