I take it as given that the minute hand should reach the minute markers, and note Mr Selmoni's comment about the hour hand almost reaching the hour marker which to me certainly 
helps to make a watch look "right". (Rolex please have a look at the 214270!)

I may have got my references mixed up - I intended to compare the standard version of the Traditionelle Small Seconds (82172/000R-9382) with the guilloche dial version of that model (82172/000R-9888) .  For some odd reason the guilloche version has longer hour indexes which not only close the gap between the indexes and the tip of the hour hand, but which also (to my eyes) are more proportionate to the dial.

Why would they do that on just one version of a watch?
