The color is one thing, but not the most important. You can wear every color on this watch, this is a question of your taste.
The points are:
1. leather qualitiy, in this case fine croco
2. workmanship, for Vacheron C always handmade
3. thickness, between 2 and max.3mm
4. form, never straigt like this brown one, always waisted from 18mm to 16, better 14mm
This VC is a very elegant watch and needs a elegant strap

I agree the current strap is hopeless

If you want to dress it down...
you could go with pigskin or natural barenia and hand stitched edges.
Dark blue
Dark or royal blue would work But on the watch itself; may I ask from approx which year it’s from?
