Dear Captain, I wholeheartedly endorse this theme as a watch- and chocolate-lover!

The world of craft chocolate and bean-to-bar chocolate has expanded tremendously in the past 10 years.

Much like independent watchmakers and micro-brands, many small chocolate makers have sprung up too, with an abundance of creativity and enthusiasm.

I've thus highlighted 4 indie/microbrand watches, paired with 4 chocolate makers, with a variety of chocolate types.

Kicking off with a pair of award-winning chocolates...    First off, Minimal Chocolate from Tokyo, a very under-the-radar brand, which has a bit of a cult following as an excellent bean-to-bar brand. Now paired with the FPJ Chronometre Bleu, which also has a bit of a cult following.   This is a dark chocolate.

Next is another award-winning chocolate, Qantu, made with Peruvian beans, now paired with a salmon Laine V38, which is one of my favourite watches.  This is a dark milk chocolate, which is like dark chocolate but with a splash of milk.  Dark milk is also one of my favourite types of chocolate!

Thirdly, Obolo chocolate from Chile, paired with a Holthinrichs Raw Ornament from the Netherlands,  This is a white chocolate, but creative chocolate makers now add additional contrast flavours to it. More boldness in an otherwise bland white chocolate, with the addition of nuts. Much like the bold 3D-printed case of the Holthinrichs, or the bold ostrich strap.

And finally something closer to home. Both watch and chocolate are made in my home country!  Fossa is an upcoming chocolate maker that has made fantastic pairings of chocolate with tea, such as this example.  Very complementary flavours indeed.  This is paired with the Feynmann Lotus, made here in Singapore, with a lovely Peranakan-themed dial made with champleve enamel with a local artisan, paired with a strap also made by a local strapmaker.

As I end the quartet of watches and chocolate , it is useful to remind myself that talent and creativity resides globally and also close to home.

So whether indie/microbrand watches, or more "indie" chocolate makers, I hope you've enjoyed both the range of watches, and the range of 4 different chocolate types too.
