I had to look up who Epictetus was. If you are referring to his discrimination between things we can change and which we cannot then I think you got me.
The main issue is to be honest when drawing the line between the things we can change and which we really cannot. Sometimes it can be just too temping to put things on the  "cannot change" side even if it could be possible.
The main problem with my approach is that it keeps you out of trouble but that at the same time you pay for it with the real passion that you will not live when keeping your distance.

How do you manage that for yourself? (If the question is not too personal.)
