Zenith

Flexibility would be my guess.

Zenith's QC department looks extremely well equipped, and serious about what they are doing.
I could say the same about many large companies though. But this is a good thing.

There are far more exotic ways of measuring parts- CMMs and optical profilers come to mind.
Both of which I have seen on PuristS in many manufactures.

My guess is they chose this Cary lever comparator micrometer because they had one, and it
worked for the task at hand well. It works like a normal micrometer- but it's specialized to check
the same dimension repeatedly for many parts, setting it to size, and then the lever on the side
springs the measuring anvils open, and closes back to the gap of set measurement.

It is the perfect portable mechanical device for precision checking similar sizes of anything to
+/- 0.02 mm, things like hundreds of watch jewels with close sizes varying a tiny bit come to mind.

It's an awesome tool, but narrow in practical use- great for checking values quickly from a standard
size, or if you make prototypes and want to progressively check your work- like shaving down a
balance staff you can take off a lathe and put back quick between centers.

Hope that helps Magnus. Oh and- future request: more pictures of rare tools if you spot any in your
visits smile
