and from what I have read, you won't have seen it before on any other watch.
Basically it takes two stacked wheels - one in front is partially transparent and the one behind is solid. Lots of little gears and things keeping them going in daily (day/night) and 29.5 day (moon) cycles.

Saw this today. Two tone big date open chronograph. What's interesting about it is the moonpase/day night indicator. In one aperture there is the moon phase but the background sky changes with the time of day with daytime sky and night time sky where
appropriate. I can\'t recall ever seeing this combination before. I just realized that I should have advanced the time and taken another picture so the night sky can be seen with the same moon phase. Very attractive piece. ...

In fact this is an open dial version of Chronomaster Grande Date Moonphase from a few years ago
These watches were released around 2012 if I am not mistaken. Same moon phase/day-night combination is there. I cannot confirm for sure but I think I have seen it in even older Zenith models. ...

The new Lange 1 Moonphase offered the same complication recently. To be honest, I didn’t know it existed in Zenith timepieces
