it would have to be the 5817 I already own. I'd also love to have a 5140 with the enamel dial or possibly a 5177, although I haven't seen the 5177 in person.
But, if I could only have one.......it would be, and is, this one.
if you could have only one breguet...
which would it be? i am a dress watch collector mostly. i have a few jlc reversos and gp vintage 1945s. the art deco thing sort of caught my fancy but the novelty is starting to wear off. however, i believe breguet watches to be the most beautiful of all dress watches. the breguet classiques and heritage line sort of caught my eye. i've been reading about gentlemen's watches in the old days and i was intrigued by the fact that they owned only 1 good watch. i've been wanting to try this for quite awhile and i think breguet is the perfect brand for this. so if you only owned one watch from breguet and none other, which would it be? the 5157 is sort of in the lead right now but i'm interested in other opinions.

Neither is especially complicated, but they are essentially wristwatch versions of what are quintessential Breguet
pocketwatches. Both are discreet yet are obviously Breguet, while the moonphase adds a romantic touch.

I especially like the ref. 3330. That in yellow gold on a black strap is perfect.

chronoswiss lunar triple date > breguet moonphase
hmm... i love moonphases but i actually think chronoswiss made a better designed moonphase than breguet while ironically copying the breguet look. it may not be finished as well but the design is better IMHO. if you change a few things from the lunar triple date to make it look more breguet such as the case and the numerals then that would make it a perfect watch indeed.

Chronoswiss is too conventional in its dial layout, moonphase at 6, day and
month windows below 12 o'clock - that's the layout of triple calendar wrist
watches since time immemorial. On the other hand, the Breguet is unorthodox yet
symmetrical, I love the off-centre dial and two windows at 10 and 1
o'clock.

great point!
thanks you for pointing that out. i believe you have altered my POV for the better. it is a breguet so i guess it must be different than common old styles.
Simplicity Rules
I don't think you can go wrong with the 5157 or the original Time and small seconds Heritage. I have the Heritage in WG on a WG bracelet and thing its the most elegant watch I own. I have a wg 3130 as well and love it for its beauty and the way its faithful to the dial and thin case that A-L B brought to the watches he actually designed.

I really would like to have a minute repeater like the 5447 or the 3637 but, they were not within my budget. After a long deliberation, I settled on the HORA MUNDI. I like the clean lines and the world time complication. Then, I had to find a close match for my wife.

I demand a date window...
...I would make exceptions for a very hi-end, infrequently-used, formal dress watch, or some sort of 'art' watch that was designed to stand on itself as a piece of art (such as some of the ones with painted faces). When I am out and about and need to sign something or check the date - I need it on my watch. I cannot remember the date for the life of me. Actually, there are cases where I might check the DATE more than he time on my watch!
