Breguet

first post of mine here, so please bear with me -

I am thinking about buying a simple dress watch by Breguet, specifically 5157, 5930, 5177, 5140 and finally (somewhat different and not as simple) 5207. Id be very interested in comments you may have on the movements behind these watches and how they compare (i read the piguet in 5930 is not that great?) I really like Breguet watches "visually" but am a little ambiguous about what I am getting for my money in terms of real manufacturing quality. I am also thinking about getting - either in addition to or instead of the Breguet - a Lange Saxonia (handwound), so any thoughts Lange v. Breguet would also be appreciated...

5177 is a classic,great looking piece with fine Beguet 777 movement.The enamel dial is a beauty.

A.Lange is a great brand of course,not quite so elegant as the 5177, but superb craftmanship.

If You want to sell the watch in some years,the A.Lange will get a better resale value.

I own a Breguet 5707 and a Richard Lange.

I find that the finishing on both watches to be top quality but the Richard Lange is the more accurate of the two. However, I must add the comparison for accuracy is a bit unfair since they are different watches designed for different functions.

While there's no denying that Breguet watches are aesthetically beautiful, I must confess that I had trouble reading time on my watch. The hands are a little too thin for good legibility. In this regard, I find Lange watches (not just the RL) to be easier on the eye.

Have you considered the new Lange 1815? I think it's in the similar price range.

Thanks for your input, guys.  After giving this quite a bit of thought I decided to go with the Lange Saxonia in rosegold with the grey dial, and so far I'm very pleased with the watch. In terms of style it has similarities with the Patek Golden Eclipse, which I like, but as I wanted a round-shaped case the Lange is perfect. I also figured that after looking at Breguet's offering a little more I just like their complicated watches better than the simple ones - e.g. the 7137 which looks amazing. Might have to wait another couple of months though now before I buy the Breguet to avoid getting into a real spending spree ;-)
