The watch is indeed wonderful, but it don't think it's particularly rare; I've seen it in AD cases more than once since I bought mine two years ago. The reference is 192.029. www.alange-soehne.com

Would you swap a Patek 5110R for a day/night moonphase?
well, hmm ...
I can't really answer because the two are so different: Swiss vs. German, totally different complications, totally different metals. Also, I've never seen a 5110 in the metal. That said, I can report that I've thought occasionally about trading this Lange, but each time I pick it up and put it on I realize I just can't do that; it's a keeper.
Of course they would make a great, complimentary, pair in a collection
The 5110 case lines are very organic and graceful and my feeling is that the Patek has a more interesting movement appearance because of the microrotor and the overall "romantic" movement design. On the other hand a moonphase itself is truly a romantic complication concept, and this implementation is unparalleled. That, and the sublime Lange 1-style dial design with its clean technical feel tend to appeal to the engineer in me.
I ask because i'm in just a position to make such a deal happen and as you figured this is a difficult apples vs oranges question. At this point one needs to ask larger questions like: As a (company) whole do I like the "Patek way" more/less than the "Lange way". Right now (For the last few months) i'm feeling the vibe from Lange- a company really going to extra mile. It would seem the 5110 is easier to replace as there are not many 192.XXX's out there.
