Just wondering your impressions of the yellow gold version of this watch. I have not seen it live. I have seen the RG version. I have thought about the YG vrsion as more "historic" - like the old pocket watches. But again, I haven't seen it. Does anyone have this watch? Seen it relative to others - how would you compare the three versions (YG/RG/WG)?
Thanks for your input.
Steve
G'day,
first of all, i´d recommend to see it (like any fine watch) in nature.
Pictures may tell a bit, but the real thing certainly is a better impression.
I´ve seen all variants, which is a rare occurence in Europe (since only one of each variant was offered here).
It´s all a matter of taste and personal preferences, but even being a "WG guy" i find both the RG and YG variants to appear less "austere" than the WG variant.
Between the RG and YG, i do like Lange´s choice of the metal and it´s warm shine. But i do prefer the blue hands of the YG variants and given YG remains to be a rarity in the watch world today, this colour always was regarded the classic choice for a fine gold watch.
The "historic" aspect seems to fit; particularly the 1815 range does have strong ties to Lange´s past in this regard.

It´s quite an understated piece and does not "jump" at you, not the least due to the fact the special back remains invisible when the watch is worn.
It´s a nice surprise to unstrap it and let it unfold it´s full beauty - opening the back is like the sun going up
All of them are nice, but given a choice between the YG and RG variant i´d probably opt for the YG myself. And that´s very rarely my choice otherwise.
Greetings from Germany,
Peter
1815 Walter Lange WG - but stopped "speaking to me" after purchase. So I sold it unworn. Sometimes it happens. I wondered why, and concluded that the dial had one less level on Walter Lange. Strange, but it seems that it was the reason. So, I looked for 1815 U/D Platinum which is similar in design but does have one more level in the dial which I really liked. I couldn't find it anywhere. So, I got "Blue dial" WG version (this was also NOS) as an "interim" or "substitute" until the platinum white dial pops up in the used market. BUT, who knows, I located a NEW 1815 U/D Platinum - in Japan where I am now and have picked up. Ah! Nice!. Sorry, Steve, I didn't answer your question but just wanted to share why I did NOT hold onto Walter Lange, and sorry if I intrude your post, Oliver.

I appreciate your perspective. That is a concern of mine too. I like the second level in the 1815 up/down dial.
Hope your trip is going as well as can be expected under the circumstances. My thoughts are with you. Sometimes this hobby can truly be a respite from things going on in our lives. Safe travels!

Dad is really better than I had expected. Of course he doesn't have much time - inevitable is inevitable. But I am grateful to whoever up there (or not - I am aethiest) that I could make it by right time I could actually talk many things with him (He is in Tokyo while I am in NYC). He is conscious and very happy to see me. I think I want to make like this trip one more time or two until, you know, the inevitable. I was/am fortunate to afford a condo for parents close to the hospital (=hospice) so that eveyone can have quality time rather than spending time for traveling (um, I now have to sell a few of my watches if you are not aware...). God (if there is one) ! I just wish I were a good son, and hope he will not suffer too long.
Bottomline in this watch forum ( I wrote similar one in another forum) - this hobby and friends I made through this hobby, really helped me to go through these tough times. This tough time is not my first to your surprises. First - my wife died last year about this time. Second - my TWO neck surgeries, the second one (July 31st) is almost funny as my neck/back looked like to have a 7" zipper just like a mickey mouse in the Disneyland. I hope the second surgery fixed everything perfectly but still hurts like hell - 4 times 2 tablets of Oxicodon everyday. Yes, I am high
So, you know who I am a little bit better now? I am relatively a newbie, but a sincere collector and a hobbiest.
And, Steve, please do let us keep updated of your 1815 line-up as I will after I go back to NY with the 1815 U/D in Platinum!
Ken
