A. Lange & Söhne

Hi, I would like to hear your opinion about the above 2 watches.  Your experience, opinion with them, etc.  Thanks.

Becuase of it's size, which is now at 40mm as compared to the old one which was way too small.

The Grand Saxonia is good as well except that it's got no numbers ( which for me is not very nice for a classic watch)

On top of that it is an automatic, which for me is a big no no( for i only purchase hand-wounds)

The new 1815 has a movement which is in house and crafted especially for this new model.

And the time-keeping is dead on perfect!

Which ever watch you end up with though, be glad that you are fortunate enough to own a Lange!

...I prefer the 1815 Up/Down.  I like its classical proportions, and I feel it exudes all the traditional sensibilities one expects from Lange.  The dial is well-balanced, although I would not have included the "gangreserve" text next to the power reserve display, but that's a small thing.

How does the 1815 side step wempe le compare the 1815 up and down in your opinion?  Thanks.

...both in the execution of the hand engraving on the movement, which is embellished in a very different spirit than the 1815 Up/Down, and in the placement of the "side-stepped" small seconds.  The Sidestep is a pretty watch (Aren't all Langes?), but I suppose it comes down to a matter of taste.  I like the Up/Down better, but there's a lot of beauty to be seen on the Sidestep too.  You can't go wrong with either, if you ask me.

I have the 1815 up/down in rose gold, but prefer the 37mm handwound Saxonia. I keep the 1815 because I like the Arabics and my Patek 5127 has stick markers, so the 1815 fits my collection better. If I didn't have the Patek, I'd buy the 37mm Saxonia. I don't like the Grand Saxonia - too much open space on the dial, imo, plus I love the Lange hand wound calibres.

It's perfect with a brand new caliber.

The 1815 up and down was nice but I prefered the purety of the dial of the classic 1815. I wear my 36mm 1815 without any problem but the new one is perfect.

I'm not a gret fan of the Grand Saxonia, I find it a bit sad except in the combo grey dial & ping gold case.

I think that the essence of lange can be seen in a better way thought the traditional 1815 without reserve indication.

 

Its the perfect watch. Of course the new 1815 is so good than the old one. 

It seems kind of hard to get.  The 2 ADs I know don't seem to have any inventory - not in any metal.  What is your opinion about the RL vs the new 1815.  Besides one has a large second hand and one is designed for accuracy.  What else can be said about the 2 models in terms of character?  Thanks.

take it (and all the either or advice you ever get about watches) with a grain of salt.  Some prefer handwounds, some autos.  Some numbers, some markers of another sort.  Some big, some small.  This is the beauty of it all.  One thing is certain -- ANY Lange you choose will be beautifully finished and well made.  That, take as the gospel!

Though it is a handsome watch, the eccentric seconds of the Sidestep with no counterbalancing sub-dial is un-Lange to me. Again, though, that's my preference. Doesn't have to be yours.

but would try to get the Walter Lange edition as its a little bigger than the regular version.

The walter lange size is only a little bigger.  Does it really make any difference?  Since you mentioned about the walter lange le, what do you of the 1815 side step wempe le compared to the 1815 up and down walter lange le and the 1815 up and down?  Thanks.
