Guten abend my fellow Lange friends!

Trust you all are having a great TUesday! I know i did!

So, to bring things up to speed, today i brought my watch to my AD, and we discussed about what could be done regarding the ridiculous scratches that Lange caused to my dearest King watch.

Many of you might remember that I talked about my most favourite guy at my store, Mr. Kosugi, the man who does it all for me, and often times even go beyond his way just to satisfy me. Mr. Kosugi, by the way, is also a master expert at metallurgy, because that was what he studied in college. One benefit of this is that he is extremely capable of doing minor and even to a certain degree major "repairs" of metal finishing.

As such, finding that i can NOT live one day longer with those damn scratches, and plus i'v entrusted to him my watches before in the past, got him to do it away with those scratches.

And after 5 hours of working, ( with me watching him all the time, which i have to tell you knowing me could give any other person great nervousness, but not Mr. Kosugi, who is the utmost best in what he does, and i call him the world's only "Platinum salesman" by the way), he returned to me a so very much more PERFECT Richard Lange Pour le Merite! I inspected it with my 10x and 30x loupe. Passed with flying colours.

So to celebrate the occasion, not only did i have a damn good 1kg Yonezawa steak ( a breed of wagyu), and some great desserts, i'v taken these extra large photos just for you fellows.

By the way, the issue with me and Lange's brand CEO here hasnt been resolved yet, BUT at least i get a hell fine watch.

Loving it and will be wearing it hell alot now.

... how did u scratch it in the 1st place? I thought platinum was very hard to scratch

You have NOT been reading my previous post! The scratches got there because of Lange's fault!

Btw, Platinum is NOT that difficult to scratch, afterall it ranks but just 4~4.5 on the Moh's scale!

That is indeed worthy of Lange.

But Lange has a long way to go to be worthy of the great Kondo-San!

Right now with the naked eye and even if you play around with the angles of light, the surface is smooth, so smooth that i'd wish it was butter i could spread of top of my bread, or maybe let melt over my steak!

I am not that into music, but i know you are! Let me see what i can find on this Kondo-san!

I know exactly how you feel after having a perfect watch.
I like Lange mainly because of Alkis..........and hopefully Lange knows how to treasure him.

First of all, it is a very well known fact that Platinum is a hard material to polish but you easiliy get scratches with it.

So if you don't like scratches, don't buy a platinum watch.

Moreover, it is better in a long-time run not to work on the case every few weeks... if you get a scratch, well, wait for the next service.

I am a bit rude but I've lived for years with a platinum watch and I knew before buying it the "troubles " I would face. And I will wait for the next service to get it back brand new.

It would of needle me, if I had not been the one  who had caused them.

I decided that i could not live with it one day more.

SO now it's cleared!

Let's hope Lange does not do it again to me in the future.

Sorry for possibly sounding a bit rude here but I honestly am not
How can this thread being too long , emotional maybe but well valid as you had mentioned.
Stephen updates us his PLM's dal has an issue, sent it back for servicing.
Then tell us the watch is back and the dial is perfect but now the lugs are scratched.
On top of that, the CEO was rude. Then he found a solution to make him sleep well
by fixing the scratched lugs with someone he trusted.
Stephen share with us with his experience and his solutuon , he is no one crying baby and
I think emotional as he can be, I respect and truly appreciate how he shares the beauty and the ugly experiences he had with us.

In fact I am in complete and absolute agreement with you both !

Somebody shoving a watch - particularly This Watch - around a hard table-top or in the deeper receses of his Own Bodily Being

Can NOT be compared with a statement such as, well - platinum gets scratched anyway - in its own special way.

That Stephen was badly treated has nothing to do with the unique and scratchable properties of Pt 950, its fracture lines, and whatever else we are served on the Table.

One thing that confuses me a bit .
Both you and Xavier mention about the interesting characteristic of Platinum case being scratched easily.....
I have always had the impression that Platinum is more resistant to scratches than gold. Can you enlighten me abit more about this?
I'm curious about this as I might have probably gotten the wrong impression of platinum case.

Maybe falling into bed with a handful of salted peanuts will to the trick but I have never experienced real scratches even after doing that..

Many white gold cases, and the same goes for platinum, have a rhodium coating that is especially scratch-resistent. But it wears off after a couple of years.

Not for me - platinum feel, platinum see, platinum is!

For an incredibly difficult and expensive watch, in some sort of diamond-coated platinum, I suggest an UrWerk. Wish I could own one - or maybe not - black covered platinum just for its value and weight.

But this is an interesting subject - how many platinum watch owners have noticed scratches, what kind of scratches, and have been disturbed by them?

I thought platinum being harder than gold so it can resist scratches better....and of course it will be harder to be polished too.
Same for Stainless steel, it being harder than gold also resist scratches better.
When we do a special coating on Stainless Steel, we increase it's vicker rating and thus increase its scratch resistant.
So that's why I have always thought that Platinum is very resistant to scratches , especially when compared to other standard cases like, YG, RG and WG.
But then I'm no expert in this area, so all I know about platinum and gold are just from my careful wearing experience .

Despite all my reading and researching, it seems like Platinum DOES scratch even easier than WG.

WG has a rhodium coating, Pt does not because it does not need it. Pt is already renown for it's natural whiteness, which is one of the factors that the Ladies love and desire it so much. It complements their skin and complexion.

Pt in a long term of wearing WILL develop the scratches, but in a unique way that is in the effect of a "hazy" mass. This is the so-called "patina" of platinum, and apparently there are 2 kinds of people regarding this, those who love it, and those who don't. I am personally in the those who don't kind.

But, when and if you want your Pt case to be polished again to that mirror polish, you can do so with minimal loss of the metal. Do the same with gold, and you will lose some metal, not that much but definitely more than Pt.

I think that the hardness of a material has got nothing to do with it's scratchability. I am not sure about this though.

and I must say pt scratches very easily.white gold for example gets hairlines in a more consinsest way ,a bit like steel.Pt gave me too the impression of a hard surface to scratch ,but was wrong.Anyway I suppose its impossible to mantain a "perfect"watch and i d like to know from Stephen how he manages.I think at some degree we all treasure our precious timepieces if they are hard earned,but someone must have a secret recipe.Mo

Well i don't know how to put it except that I wear them "damn carefully"!

Of course scratches do appear on my watches as well, referring to the platinum ones too, but they are at a bare minimal, and sometimes when i see photo's of other's Pt watches im dazzled as to how they can get to be so scratchy.

I guess like i said it's just in the family, from our home, to everything in it, our car and definitely my watches.

Nothing much secret, it's just all in the wrist!

It is Lange who scratches his watch, not Stephen himself and the CEO of Lange Japan has been very rude to him.
Also, Platinum is not an easy watch to be scratched, gold and titanium are.
After buying a dream watch of his ( 6 figure sum), to realise that the dial is not perfect as claim.....
the frustration to send it back for servicing immediately and to have the watch being scratched while servicing.......plus
a rude Japan Lange CEO, I think Stephen is already behaving very well , don't you think ? ;-)
