Hi all,

I just posted my incoming very recently, a rose gold Lange 1 moonphase.. But it truly is a disease, and I'm already thinking of the next!

I am considering a Datograph (have not decided on 1st vs 2nd generation, input appreciated), vs a 1815 chrono (also not decided on which version), and a Patek 3940 perpetual calendar..

Very different pieces I know, but each worthy in its own right..

I'd like to seek your advice though about the Datograph's wearibility on a small wrist.. Mine is 6 inches, very small, and I wonder what the long term experience would be like? Have yet to be able to try one on the wrist, and might not be able to do so for a while, thus your input is much appreciated.. What would be the minimum wrist size to be able to carry it off and be comfortable?

An alternative would be the much more wearable 1815 chrono, whose aesthetic I very much appreciate.. But I'm not sure I'll ever be able to get over the notion that it's a less iconic sibling to the datograph..

And also the 3940, which I havent been able to try on either, but certainly much more suitable for small wrists..

Now, don't expect to get a comfotable Watch. It is not. It will not be perfectly centered on your wrist, it will " seat " high on the wrist, but the Dato is a bit like an old car. Not the most comfortable, but how charming.

As for which Dato, the first, of course, the Icon. I totally dislike the dial of the new, even if I salute the horological improvements.

The first datograph is THE icon, with the roman numerals, cleaner dial without the power reserve indicator.. One wonders though if the 39mm wrist size as compared to the 41mm of the new version makes it more, or less, wearable, since it is thicker and preumably more top heavy?

Hope this picture helps. It sits high and is not the most comfortable but it doesn't slide around. Mine has the deployment buckle - am not sure if the same is with the tang buckle (may be even more comfortable). Overall I am happy with its comfort level to be honest. The weight needed some getting used to but I am enjoying its heft now.

I used to be comfortable with larger watches such as Panerais and my AP ROO, even with my 6 inch wrist. However after getting into vintage rolex and with my recent Lange 1 acquisition, there really is a refreshing comfort in wearing smaller, more proportionate watches I have to say!

I too have the Platinum Deployant.  When I first got the watch, I was not happy with how it sat on the wrist and the comfort factor.  After a couple of months, the watch became enjoyable.  I found it to be a learning process.  The beauty also helped while I adjusted.  I kick myself, as I made one mistake early on, and I hit a chair back and I have one scratch in the bezel.  So you need to pay a little attention during the learning curve.  Otherwise I have five years of love here.  I hope you make the decision to get the original Dato.  It is a mesmerizing watch.

. Resonates with me.. Took some time to get used to my Pam's in the past too! It's just that having gotten used to smaller watches recently I'm reluctant to go back to wearing monster watches so to speak, haha.

I always get use that a beautiful watch does not get affected by a small or a big wrist. It stands beautiful on it's own. And also this brand is not an ordinary brand Enjoy your beautiful watch. Thank you very much.

If you can find a place or person that will allow you to try them on your wrist, I highly recommend that you do so. Maybe a very obvious suggestion (and you say that you may not be able to do so for some time) but I say this because personally I felt the Lange 1 was perfect on my wrist, but over the three times I've put an original Datograph on my wrist, it felt very "top heavy" - not necessarily a bad thing in itself but something that just didn't feel right on my wrist. I have a small wrist too, but many other large and heavy pieces work just fine on my wrist.

However getting a current version, let alone a preowned first generation Datograph to try on here is certainly challenging.. Not that I would ever buy a watch at this level sight unseen, but it would be nice to know what others think while waiting to encounter a piece!

Indeed I have tried on the new version 1815 Chrono, and it really wears like a dream.. However I'm not convinced I won't end up wishing it was the Datograph after getting it, given how I wish my ROO Panda was the iconic Jumbo now!!

You may get 100s of comments, you will get the definitive answer when you will put the watch on the wrist and try it...

Each wrist has a different shape and even with similar sizes, a watch can be comfortable with one and not with an other.
